STATEWIDE EMPLOYMENT FORECASTED TO EXPAND BY 5.6 PERCENT
Total Jobs Projected to Increase from 696,390 to 735,180 from 2014-2024

HONOLULU — The Hawaii State Department of Labor & Industrial Relations’ (DLIR) Research & Statistics Office (R&S) today announced the release of Employment Projections for Industries and Occupations, 2014-2024. R&S projects that ten out of the twelve major industrial sectors will increase, with the largest numerical expansion in industries that employ the most workers. The smallest industry division, Natural Resources and Mining, is expected to lose workers primarily due to a drop in Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing, and Hunting. Anticipated losses at the federal level because of increased pressure to reduce the budget deficit will offset gains at the state and county levels in Government.
