Bonnie-Lee S.L. Pang, Chair
Bonnie is Director, Senior Vice President Health Solutions for Aon Risk Services, Inc. of Hawaii. She leads the Health Solutions practice in Hawaii, including Business Development and Account Executive client servicing.
Bonnie joined Aon Risk Services, Inc. of Hawaii in 2022. Her experience includes account management at Kaiser Health Plan Hawaii, Practice Leader for Mercer Health & Benefits – Hawaii and Senior Vice President/Manager, Benefit Consulting for Atlas Insurance Agency. Bonnie has collaborated with clients in a broad range of industries to design and implement innovative benefit solutions to support corporate strategies. She is experienced working with fully insured and self-funded health plans, and labor unions.
Bonnie has been a speaker at the National Association of Benefit and Insurance Professionals – Hawaii, Hawaii Employers Council, and the Human Resources Executives Conference.
Bonnie earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Redlands and Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix – Hawaii.
She serves on the Executive Board for Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii, President SHRM-Hawaii Oahu Educational Foundation, HICOMP, Board Member Always Dream, and Trustee Le Jardin Academy.
Dr. John T. McDonnell
Dr. McDonnell has been a member of the Hawaii Prepaid Health Care Advisory Council since 1990. He is a Board Certified Allergist/Immunologist in private practice in Kaneohe. Dr. McDonnell received his M.D. degree from the New Jersey College of Medicine and Dentistry in Newark, New Jersey, where he also trained, and became board Certified as a Pediatrician. After two years of U.S. Army service as a Pediatrician at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he completed an Allergy-Immunology Fellowship at Fitz Simmons Medical Center, affiliated with National Jewish Center for Immunology and Respiratory Medicine in Denver, Colorado. He thereafter became Board Certified as an Allergist-Immunologist. Dr. McDonnell served a three-year tour of duty as Chief of Allergy and Immunology at the Tripler Army Medical Center before retiring from active duty in 1981. Dr. McDonnell continued to serve in the Army Reserve until 1999.
Dr. McDonnell is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii. He has served as President for the Hawaii Allergy Society, Honolulu County Medical Association, and the Hawaii Medical Association and currently serves on the Tobacco Prevention and Control Trust Fund Advisory Board which overseas monies from the National Master Settlement of 1987 with the Tobacco Industry. In addition, Dr. McDonnell serves on the Hawaii State Board of Medical Examiners and Hawaii Vocal Art Ensemble, and previously served on the American Lung Association Board of Directors. Dr. McDonnell annually volunteers at the Hawaii Asthma Camp.
Mr. Mike Hogan
Mike Hogan has been in the investment, employee benefits and financial service industry for almost thirty-five years. From 1987-89 he served as lead employee benefits and financial services representative for Aetna Life and Casualty during the launch of Aetna’s 401(k) platform, “401EZ”, and its Preferred Provider Health Insurance Program, “Aetna Partners”. He worked in both the Los Angeles and Honolulu offices before starting his consulting practice in January of 1989 offering investment advisory, employee benefits and financial services to individual consumers, corporations, associations, and unions.
Mike founded The Hogan Financial Group, LLC in 2017 offering Investment Advisory and Financial Service Solutions to the local market with an emphasis on Fiduciary Oversight and Participant Education. He also founded TM Hogan, Inc. in 1992 which was acquired by Bank of Hawaii in 2006 and a separate Investment Management Firm that was acquired by Boston Partners/Robeco in 2002. In 2020 Mike joined Waddell & Reed, Inc. as an investment advisor offering ERISA and Wealth Management Services in Hawaii.
He is a graduate of California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and pursued a Master’s Degree in Business at Chaminade University. Mike is currently a member of the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, Past Chairman of the Saint Louis School Board of Trustees, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation Board and Golf Tournament Chair, Adult Friend’s for Youth Board Member, Kamaaina Kids Board Member, D. Otani Produce Board Member; Hoola Na Pua Board Member, Na Pua Moamahi Treasurer/Board Member, Kapiolani Hospital Golf Committee Member, Hawaii Prepaid Healthcare Advisory Council; and has previously served on the St. Anthony’s School Board of Trustees, Special Olympics Fund Raising Committee, American Heart Association Golf Tournament Committee, Women in Need Golf Committee, National Association of Health Underwriters, Hawaii Association of Health Underwriters, Past President of the Investment Society of Hawaii, and member of Metropolitan Rotary of Honolulu. He has held professional licenses for insurance (Life and Health) and securities (NASD – Series 7, 63, 65).
Mr. Derek Kanehira
Derek is Senior Vice President, Human Resources for Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. Responsibilities include strategic HR leadership; overseeing the delivery of people solutions including programs, services and policies; internal communications; and office services. He also supports the company through organizational development, corporate culture, executive compensation, employee benefits, and employee experience initiatives. Prior to A&B, Derek served as Vice President & Director of HR Services at Hawaii Employers Council.
In addition to being a member of the Hawaii Prepaid Health Care Advisory Council, Derek currently serves on the State of Hawaii’s WDC Employer Engagement Committee, Hawaii Employers Council, Hawaii Compensation Group, Diabetes Care for Life, Make-A-Wish Hawaii’s wish granting committee, Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawaii, and McKinley High School’s Finance and Hospitality/Tourism Academy.
Ms. Winona White
Ms. White has been the Managing Director of Human Resources at Kamehameha Schools for the past ten years. Before moving to Kamehameha Schools as Vice President of Human Resources, she held a similar role at Kaiser Permanente – Hawaii Region where she served for over twenty-years in a variety of capacities. Her journey to Kaiser Permanente and, eventually, the PHC Advisory Council, was inspired by a research project she did as an undergraduate at the University of Hawaii at Manoa on the impact of the Hawaii Prepaid Healthcare Act and the role of managed care on the people of Hawaii.
Ms. White holds a Master of Business Administration degree and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Hawaii’s Shidler School of Business. She is also a graduate of the advanced leadership program at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School, and a graduate of the advanced human resources executive program at the University of Michigan’s Ross School of business.
Ms. White is the principal and founder of True North Leadership Consulting, LLC providing executive and leadership coaching. Ms. White has served on the Board of Governors of the Hawaii Employers Council, the University of Hawaii Master of Human Resources advisory board as an executive panelist, and as a mediator for the Mediation Center of the Pacific
Mr. Wayne Graves
Mr. Graves is currently a Director of Human Resources with Hawai‘i Pacific Health and brings to the council 30 + years of human resources and benefits administration experience. His current responsibilities include oversight of Employee Benefits, Compensation, Payroll, and Human Resources Information systems. Mr. Graves holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from LeMoyne College, as well as a Master of Business Administration degree from the State University of New York at Albany. Prior to joining the council, Mr. Graves actively volunteered with various community groups, including service as a board member with MediCredit Federal Credit Union and participation with the Nu’uanu YMCA Alliance Board. Mr. Graves joined the Hawai‘i Prepaid Health Care Advisory Council in July, 2023.
Ms. Lauren Yee
Lauren is a graduate of Tufts University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. She is also a licensed attorney in Hawaii and received her Juris Doctorate from Boston College Law School.
Lauren began her work career at First Hawaiian Bank where she was privileged to train in various departments including teller, loan serving, and branch management. She then found her true passion in the HMO health care insurance industry where she spent the next 28 years.
Lauren joined Kaiser Permanente Hawaii’s Contracts and Benefits department in 1995. Over the next 12 years, she was responsible for all matters related to the health insurance contracts such as filing/approvals from Federal/State regulators, contract writing/interpretation/production, and ensuring ongoing compliance with the numerous Federal and State health insurance laws. Her responsibilities also included analysis and coverage determinations for Kaiser’s new and existing medical benefits.
Seeking to expand her knowledge, she moved and spent the next 10 years working in the Product Development department, accountable for end to end development of Kaiser’s new insurance and medical products including ideation, feasibility analysis, implementation, and post launch assessments. She was also accountable for the ongoing viability of Kaiser’s existing products.
In order to fill a company need, Lauren moved back into the Contracts department for 4 years before spending her the last few years as a contracts business consultant in Kaiser’s National Office where she was a lead consultant for various large, high visibility and custom handling employer groups.
Lauren retired in 2023 in order to pursue her desire to give back to the local community through her volunteer work. She was honored to be appointed as a member of the Prepaid Health Care Advisory Council beginning in 2024.
