HIOSH Increases Civil Penalty Amounts for 2025
The increases adjust for inflation and ensure the Hawaii Occupational Safety and Health (HIOSH) is consistent with Hawaii and Federal law.
Effective Date: Saturday, January 25, 2025
The law, specifically §396-10(o) of the Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS) mandates an annual increase in civil penalties to align them with the civil penalties set by the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA).
The increase is based on the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ report on the October Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) each year. The adjustment multiplier for this annual adjustment is 1.02598.
