Every year, during September – National Suicide Prevention Month – the construction industry dedicates a week (September 4-8th) to raising awareness about the unique challenges workers face that lead to suicide and what everyone can do to prevent it.
Worker suicides are particularly concerning for the construction industry. The suicide rate for construction workers is 4 times higher than in the general population, due in large part to work-related stresses such as seasonal work, demanding schedules and workplace injuries.
This is an issue that deeply impacts workers, their families, and our communities.
