LIRAB is a quasi-judicial agency that adjudicates appeals from decisions rendered by the Director of Labor and Industrial Relations relating to Workers’ Compensation (injuries on the job) and Boiler and Elevator Safety.
LIRAB is composed of three members nominated and, by and with the advice and consent of the senate, appointed by the governor for terms of ten years each. The governor designates the chairperson of the board, who is a licensed attorney in the State of Hawaii.
